Up with the chickens, we are out the door to CLT before dawn.
I'm off to San Diego, planning to see beaches, museums in Balboa Park, USS Midway, and to generally bike around for a couple days. Hopefully I can sample all the best tacos SD has to offer.
Kathy is on her way to Pasadena and LA, to meet up with Pat and visit her brother. The Eaton fire is not far away from John's place in Pasadena. Fortunately the major highway corridor just north of his place is a good firebreak. So he's just in Red Flag area (level 1 evacuation), vs level 2 (ready to go) and level 3 (must go now). But the smoke will likely be significant and potentially at quite unhealthy levels. Fingers crossed for no more Santa Ana winds today.
Kathy knows a college friend who just lost her house to the Pacific Palisades fire. We're thankful the friend and family escaped unharmed. The loss is tragic, the cause (climate change due to hydrocarbon burning) is known, and there are perpetrators of our delayed response. See Elad Nehorai's article on substack.
On the fire topic, I see that I missed an October issue of Science that talks about wildfires. It's time to catch up now. Here's a photo collage with WatchDuty app screenshots of LA and Eaton fires, Science cover, and the Living Way houselamps flickering away.
Anyhow, I'm supposed to not scare the kids. So let's see what San Diego has to offer! Tacos!
Stay safe Mom & Dad! Can't wait to follow along with your travels.
